We are a small British charity and our primary interest is in the training of doctors and clinical specialists. We will consider applications for training nurses and in some circumstances may also consider the training of community health workers.  We have helped fund courses in Africa, South America, Nepal, Bangladesh as well as other areas in Asia.

A successful proposal should include, as a minimum, the following points:

  • the training must be provided in a developing country
  • students who will be likely to remain and develop medical practice in those countries
  • the structure of the training course including:
    • the subjects areas of the proposed course
    • the course location
    • qualifications to be gained, and
    • number of trainees
  • precise details of the costs expended and amount of grant required

Additional helpful information should include:

  • qualifications of the likely tutors
  • the number of people who are likely to benefit indirectly from this training
  • how the effectiveness of the training will be assessed and reported

We do not fund:

  • capital development programmes
  • the provision of health care
  • the general education of the public in health care
  • the training of administrators
  • courses that have already taken place

Our grants are relatively small so we fully understand that it is unlikely that they will cover all the costs involved. We are very happy to be funding a course in conjunction with others and we are particularly interested to help in circumstances where there might be difficulty in training going forward without our grant.

If you wish to send us a proposal, please find our contact details on the contact us section of this website.
